Experience authentic Chagga culture on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Spend two immersive days in Kilimani Village, learning traditional coffee making, local cooking, handicrafts, and enjoying the rhythms of daily life. What to expect
Day 1 – Cultural Activity
07:00 AM – Pick-up from Moshi
Travel from Moshi to Kilimani Village, enjoying scenic views of banana and coffee plantations on the way.
10:00 AM – Village Welcome & Tea
Arrive in the village and receive a warm welcome with tradition. The village guide introduces the history and lifestyle of the Chagga people.
10:30 AM – Coffee Experience
Discover the traditional methods for obtaining, processing, grinding, and enjoying the Chagga coffee. Listen to local ladies and elders share their experiences about Kilimanjaro's coffee tradition.
01:00 PM – Traditional Lunch
.Experience a traditional Chagga meal made by village women, which includes pilau, fresh fruits, banana stew, and regional vegetables. Discover the Chagga community's cooking customs.
02:30 PM – Village & Farm Walk
Explore banana plantations, coffee farms, and community projects. Meet local women involved in handicrafts and small scale agriculture. Visit a traditional healer and hear about local remedies.
05:00 PM – Cultural Interaction
Join the villagers for traditional drumming, dancing, and storytelling. Learn a few words in Kichagga and the history of families.
07:00 PM – Dinner & Overnight Stay
Dinner with your host family or eco lodge, experiencing authentic rural Chagga life. Overnight at homestay or camp
Day 2 – Nature and Cultural Exploration
06:30 AM – Sunrise Viewing (Optional)
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over Kilimanjaro and the surrounding village landscape — perfect for photography.
07:30 AM – Breakfast
Enjoy a traditional breakfast: chapati, cassava, bananas, and local tea. Participate in preparation for a hands-on experience.
09:00 AM – Nature Walk to Waterfall
Take a gentle hike to a nearby waterfall, learning about local plants and wildlife along the way.
11:00 AM – Craft and Cooking lesson
Engage in handicraft making like palm weaving, beadwork and soap making or cooking local dishes, guided by village women.
01:00 PM – Traditional Lunch & Farewell Ceremony
Share a final meal with your hosts. Participate in a farewell ceremony with songs, dance, and souvenir exchange.
03:00 PM – Return to Moshi
Return to Moshi after thinking back on your highly involved Chagga culture experience. A chance to purchase regional handicrafts is soon.
