Yala National Park is located about 260 kilometers from Colombo and takes approximately four hours to reach. The park combines a strict nature reserve with a national park and is divided into five blocks, with two currently open to the public.

Covering nearly 130,000 hectares, Yala features diverse landscapes including forests, grasslands, lagoons, and wetlands. Located in the south-east of Sri Lanka along the Indian Ocean, it was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and later became a national park in 1938.

Yala is home to 44 species of mammals and 215 bird species, including one of the world’s largest concentrations of leopards, as well as elephants, sloth bears, jackals, spotted deer, peacocks, and crocodiles. The best time to visit is between February and July when animals are easier to spot.

Experience

This day trip offers an exciting wildlife safari experience inside one of Sri Lanka’s most famous national parks. Guests travel by jeep through the park, exploring its diverse ecosystems and spotting wildlife in their natural habitat.

The safari is conducted twice daily, in the morning and evening sessions, giving guests the opportunity to choose their preferred time. The experience combines adventure, nature, and scenic beauty, followed by lunch and return to Colombo.

Itinerary

Day Trip

The journey begins with a drive from Colombo to Yala National Park, taking approximately four hours. Upon arrival, guests enter the park by jeep for a guided safari experience during either the morning or evening session.

Morning safari runs from 06:00am to 10:00am, while the evening safari runs from 02:00pm to 06:00pm. During the safari, guests explore the park’s landscapes and wildlife.

After completing the safari, guests have lunch before departing back to Colombo, marking the end of the trip.
