What to expect
Itinerary
Your experience begins with a hotel pickup from Dar es Salaam or a direct meeting at Pugu Hills Forest Reserve, depending on your preference. Upon arrival, you will meet your professional local guide for a brief orientation and safety briefing, covering the hiking route, wildlife awareness, and forest conservation guidelines.
You will start your guided hike through natural forest trails, surrounded by indigenous trees, medicinal plants, and diverse wildlife. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights into the history and ecological importance of Pugu Hills, one of Tanzania’s oldest protected forests.
During the hike, you may encounter white colobus monkeys, known for their distinctive black-and-white fur, as well as giant millipedes, butterflies, and other forest creatures that thrive in this protected ecosystem.
The trail continues to the famous Pugu Bat Caves, where you will observe large colonies of fruit bats from a safe distance while learning about their role in seed dispersal and forest regeneration.
You will also visit Lake Minaki, a peaceful natural water body within the reserve, offering a calm resting point and great photo opportunities.
As you climb toward the peak, you will reach scenic viewpoints with panoramic views of Dar es Salaam, including the coastline and surrounding landscapes.
